mazzy R.I.P. (1995-2009)

had to put my lab down yesterday. she passed with her head on my lap. i love her so much. i am very sad, this happened all too fast. antifreeze poisoning is a horrible way to die. her kidneys shut down, and i had no choice. if it weren't for all my beautiful friends and family, i might shut down myself. i see her in everything, she was my companion, i told her everything, dreams, fears, she danced with me and followed me loyally for the last 13 yrs. she was sweet and pure...and she has been my studio mate everyday i am working...thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

Jeff: This just breaks my heart. We had a dog that had kidney failure and he laid in my arms his last day until I had to take him to be put to sleep. It is such a hard thing. Just hold your beautiful little girl tight tonight. You are truly in my thoughts!!

I only know you thru blogland, but glimpses into your world have always been endearing to me for their humanity, and sweetness, and the common thread of art and kids etc. I have been wondering about you and your dog all day.....I'm sorry it had to be like this. I appreciate you sharing it here with us and letting us share this sadness with you. I am so sorry for your loss. I'm just another "cyber" hand to hold in your grief, Jeff, take care.

I am so sorry to hear that your pup wasn't able to pull through. It sounds like she had a lovely life as your sidekick, and I'm sure she'll remain by your side in spirit. My thoughts are with you...

I found this and think it is true:

"I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive."
- Friend-Gilda Radner, "It's Always Something," 1989

So sorry to hear about you loosing your companion!

It was April 07 when we had to have our golden retriever Sam put to sleep because of antifreeze poisoning. He was intentionally poisoned by a horrible man. My little girl who was then 10 lay in the floor and sobbed into his fur promising him that there would be thousands of balls in Heaven. He loved to play ball to the point of obsession. You see he was like her brother and like my son and I know that you understand that closeness. There are no words to make you feel better, but your words show the love you gave to Mazzy ~ you and your family gave her a wonderful life. I believe that one day we will be reunited with our loved pets. They have as much pure soul as any human.. My daughter fought for a law here in Tennessee that antifreeze be made bitter to save lives. You can read about it at www.haleyham.com it helped her because in her words she wanted "justice for Sam and for no other animals to suffer like he did." This needs to be a Federal Law. Your family will remain in our thoughts and prayers. We still miss Sam everyday, but as time passes we remember more and more good times and how he changed our lives for the better in the short time we had with him. There is a book by Dean Koontz the name of the book is Bliss to You ~ He says that his dog Trixie changed his life ~ I really recommend reading this book.

Jeff, I'm so sorry. I lost my lab of 13 years, Perry, two years ago. He went through a bad time there at the end. It was heartbreaking. I know your pup had a great life with soooo much love. Please take care. Your friend, Ron

Jeff, there are no words that seem appropriate. I know Mazzy was like your child. I remember when I first met her, the many walks we shared, the joy she showed when you walked into the room. I don't believe I've ever known a sweeter spirit and I'm so glad she was there for you for all those difficult years. Even though she is gone, she will always be with you, even a part of you. Take care of yourself and know that I love you.

So sorry about the loss of your long time companion Mazzy. Our dog Blue died in our arms in 1993 and we still think of her, but the loss has now been replaced with the happy memories we have of all the good times we had with her. My thoughts are with you and your daughter.
